MARIST UNIVERSITY WOMEN WIN TRI-STATE CONFERENCE 7s TITLE
&
HOST TEAM SIENA COLLEGE WOMEN TAKE DIVISION III TITLE
Loudonville, NY – On the beautiful Siena College campus in Loudonville, NY the Marist University Women went undefeated, going 6-0, and ran away with the Tri-State Conference 7s Championship 2025. Hosts Siena went 4-0 in their pool and then defeated Drew University in the final.
The Red Foxes were the dominant team throughout the afternoon that bore witness to 34 games of Rugby 7s. The weather was cold and made worse by the gusts of wind that blew throughout the day. It made for difficult handling and there were certainly plenty of dropped passes but the enthusiasm and intent to play was there from all teams.
In Pool A The College of New Jersey had a bright start dispatching Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 32-10 and then knocking off Vassar College 17-14. But Vassar responded with a win over Columbia and another 2 victories to take the top spot in Pool A. Columbia also finished with a 3-1 record but only collected a single bonus point so finished runner-up.
In Pool B Marist didn’t take a backward step and swept aside all opponents. Fairfield University, the runner-up these past two years to Columbia University, went through as the second placed team.
In the semifinals Fairfield managed to defeat Vassar 10-5 while Marist was on a roll and defeated the defending champions 34-12.
The Championship game was all Marist and a 41-0 score meant that the title went to the Poughkeepsie based school. Congratulations to the Marist University team and a huge, huge thank you to the referees for the day and Siena College for hosting the championship.
