Developmental 7s – Annandale-on- Hudson 10/28 & 10/29, 2023

Bard College hosted a 7s Tournament for 6 men’s teams and the final saw Drew prevail against SUNY-New Paltz. The Tri-State teams have been battling to rebuild their rosters since the Covid-19 pandemic and the loss of the 2020-21 season. Many programs have not had enough players to field 15-a-side games so the default has been 7s or 10s. Kudos to all these 6 teams for playing rugby this fall and it is hoped that come next fall everyone of them will be back to playing 15s each weekend. Special thanks to RRSNY referees David Mowen and Brian Wolf for covering all the games.

Women’s NCR Postseason

Check the Playoffs section of this website or go to ncr.rugby for postseason details.

1. Conference Champions and Playoff Qualification: If your conference is receiving an AQ bid to any division, please connect Kelsea or myself to their best team contacts the moment they are qualified either via a points system or conference championship. The sooner we can begin teams through the eligibility check process, booking hotels, etc the better.  All teams attending Regionals will need to have an approved Player Eligibility Verification (PEV) Form available on the NCR Resources page submitted to eligibility@ncr.rugby upon qualifying to attend. Please always be sure to use the website version as it’s the most updated version.

If conferences wish to submit a second team to playoffs, or teams would like to individually submit to be an at large team that is due by October 21st using this form.

Please review the competition structures here for all divisions – matchups with kick off times by region will be confirmed in the first week of November.

2. BOAR Tournament: If your teams want to get more rugby in the late fall, apply now for a post season grant up to $750 reimbursed cost for an end of season tournament. I’ve a had few people ask if anyone else was throwing one, so don’t be shy. If you have a venue available, host something. It can be 7s, 10s, 15s, motley sides, whatever you want as long as 4 non playoff teams are in attendance we will reimburse you for awards, referees, and medical costs. We realize only so many teams can qualify for playoffs, but NCR still wants to support more minutes in November/December for all teams so rally the troops and play.

3. Friday Night Rugby: Please tune in tonight for our second featured women’s match at 7:30 pm EST with a small college clash St. Bonaventure v Niagara, and our final will be in a few weeks with Purdue v Notre Dame on 10/27. It’s important that we support each other in our effort to have college rugby in front of more eyeballs turn it on, and give it a watch.

4. All Stars: Big email about it went out about 2 weeks ago, but a reminder to please have your current coaching staff complete this form by Sunday 10/15 for event registration. This info is how we’re going to get the ball rolling so if you are not the best POC please forward this to whoever is going to run the program so we can be in touch. At this time, any and all inquiries regarding the event, kit, hotel links, and so on should be directed towards TC at tc@ncr.rugby.

If you have any other questions/comments/concerns at this time please reach out to Kelsea or myself and we’ve be happy to help you with whatever.

Cheers,

Re: Fall 2023 Team Schedules

To all interested parties,

I just wanted to follow up and provide the details regarding possible match-ups this Fall in the event that certain teams are not participating, have low roster numbers, or may not be able to fulfill a commitment on a particular weekend due to roster size.

Most probably we will know prior to the start of the season if a team is unable to participate but there is always the hope that good first year student recruitment will enable a team to play their games.

Update as of 9/7/23

1. The U. at Albany Women’s Team are suspended by their school;

2. Maritime College Women (very low number of players) expect to be able to play 7s.

3. Molloy College Women may also have low numbers but hope to have at least enough players for 7s.

Below are the 5 weekend scenarios with alternate match-ups:

Weekend of Sat. 9/23 & Sun 9/24

9/23 Rutgers University Women at Siena College Women.

9/23 Maritime College Women at Fairfield v SBU B (or Fairfield B) Women.

9/24 Molloy College Women at New Paltz Women.

Weekend of Sat. 9/30 & Sun 10/1

10/1 Molloy College Women hosts Drew, Vassar & Maritime Women.

10/1 Maritime College Women at Molloy with Vassar & Drew Women.

Weekend of Sat. 10/7 & Sun 10/8

10/7 Montclair State Women at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Women

10/7 Maritime College hosts New Paltz Women.

10/8 Molloy College Women at Siena College Women

Weekend of Sat. 10/14 & Sun 10/15

10/15 TCNJ Women to Marist College Women

10/15 Maritime College Women hosts Siena College Women

10/15 Molloy College Women hosts Hofstra University Women.

Weekend of Sat. 10/21 & Sun 10/22

10/21 Fordham University Women at Hofstra University Women with Columbia & Maritime Women.

Please INFORM your Club Sport Director and school administration of these changes and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Tony Brown

Women’s Teams Fall Competition – Schedules

For Immediate Release

College Rugby in the Tri-State area (NY-NJ-CT)

Monday July 24th, 2023

This year the Tri-State teams will compete in the National Collegiate Rugby postseason pathways. That means a Division II team as well as a Small College team will advance. There is also the possibility of Tri-State Division II team being granted an At-Large bid to the postseason Round of 16. Competition will no doubt be fierce as traditionally Tri-State teams have fared well in the playoffs. Below is a link to the Fall Schedules and if you want to look at the playoff picture then go to the home page, click on Playoffs in the main menu at the top of the page.

TS Women Fall 2023 Schedules

Re: Fall 2023 Team Schedules

To all interested parties,

I just wanted to follow up and provide the details regarding possible match-ups this Fall in the event that certain teams are not participating, have low roster numbers or may not be able to fulfil a commitment on a particular weekend due to roster size.

Most probably we will know prior to the start of the season if a team is unable to participate but there is always the hope that good first year student recruitment will enable a team to play their games.

The 2 programs that are most at risk are U. at Albany Women (currently suspended by school) and Maritime College Women (very low number of players). Molloy College Women may also have low numbers but hopes to have at least enough players for 7s.

I realize that the sooner we know the status of these programs the better it is for planning purposes i.e. buses and officials.

Below are the 5 weekend scenarios with alternate match-ups:

Weekend of Sat. 9/23 & Sun 9/24

9/23 Albany at Rutgers – if Albany is suspended Rutgers at RPI vs Vassar B.

9/23 Maritime at Fairfield v SBU B (or Fairfield B).

9/24 Molloy at New Paltz.

Weekend of Sat. 9/30 & Sun 10/1

10/1 Albany hosts Drew – if Albany is suspended Molloy hosts Drew & Vassar.

10/1 Maritime at Molloy with Vassar & Drew.

Weekend of Sat. 10/7 & Sun 10/8

10/7 Albany at Montclair – if Albany is suspended then on 10/8 Montclair at Siena.

10/7 Maritime hosts New Paltz – but if Maritime cannot play then New Paltz to RPI.

10/8 Molloy at Siena with Montclair.

Weekend of Sat. 10/14 & Sun 10/15

10/14 Albany hosts TCNJ – if Albany is suspended TCNJ to Marist.

10/15 Maritime hosts Siena – if Maritime cannot play then Siena to Marist.

10/15 Molloy hosts Hofstra.

Weekend of Sat. 10/21 & Sun 10/22

10/22 Albany at Fordham – if Albany is suspended then Fordham to Hofstra.

10/22 Maritime at Hofstra with Columbia & Fordham.

Again, let me state that we hope to know the status of each team prior to the start of the Fall schedule (the third weekend of September) but I wanted to let teams know of the options.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Tony Brown
